Winston Churchill

World War II (1874–1965)

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

Biography

Winston Churchill was the Prime Minister who led Britain through its darkest hours of World War II. A former soldier and war correspondent, his 'finest hour' speeches sustained national will during the Blitz. At the strategic level, he championed the North Africa and Mediterranean campaigns, forged the Allied coalition, and shaped the post-war order at conferences with Roosevelt and Stalin.

"We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets... we shall never surrender."

— Winston Churchill
